2012 World Series of Poker Info

wsop infoIt’s almost that time of year again!  The 43rd annual World Series of Poker begins Sunday, May 27th with the last tournament starting Monday, July 9th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Each year thousands of poker players risk their bankrolls for a chance to win over $190,000,000 in available prize money. Some risk it all for the winner’s bracelets that adorn the wrists of legends like Phil Helmuth, Doyle Brunson and Phil Ivey and the respect that comes with a WSOP bracelet.

The Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino (owned by Caesars) is hosting the tournament again this year. 480 poker tables fill the 125,000 square foot ballroom along with cameras from ESPN to capture the all-in action. Buy-ins for each tournament range from a direct buy-in of $500 to $1,000,000 while some players won seats at the many WSOP circuit events held all over the country through out the year.  There are some US friendly poker sites offering WSOP satellites, like Lock Poker.  Of course all the non-US poker sites like PokerStars also offer WSOP seats for winning online tournaments.

The most well-known of the events is the $10,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em Main Event. It begins Saturday, July 7th and runs until the final table of nine players is determined. Since 2008, play of the final table has been delayed until November, earning the players the nickname of the November Nine. Due to the 2012 Presidential Election, play this year will begin on October 28th.  Will it now be call the October 9?

Several variations of poker are played during the World Series of Poker, the most common being No-Limit Hold’em. Other events being offered this year are Heads Up No-Limit, Pot Limit Omaha, H.O.R.S.E, Limt Hold’em, 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball (limit), amongst many others. Registration opens May 27 with pre-registration available 14 days prior to any bracelet event. Party Poker PokerFest Tournament

For all the poker lovers out there, the commemoration of our annual PokerFest Tournament at PartyPoker will be going on from the 23rd of October until the 6th of November. Qualification will start at one dollar, and qualifications will be structured so the buy-in amount will allow play in any event for that value. Players will have access to a share of $3,000,000 in prize money, including the $1,000,000 payoff for the culmination pot at the main event. The inaugural PartyPoker PokerFest tournament will have a total of 47 events with a variety of game types and at least three events held every day between October 23rd and November 6th.

The 1st four NLH events will start at 13:30 ET on October 23rd with a pot of $472,000 to be given out that day.

Unlike what you might imagine and be led to believe, it seems that certain online poker sites are rigged. That means, they employ the usage of bots, which can manipulate the way the poker games are played online. The common opinion

Strange plays
If you notice the following things, chances are the poker site could be rigged. For example, whenever you play poker on the site and you find someone else making a strange play, which results in a win, it could be that the poker site is rigged. Sometimes, players may call on river and still end up losing all the times that they do.  Some strange plays are due to players trying to get maximum points to earn their poker bonus.  At other times, long shot type of draws such as gutshots but the odds of this happening are one in ten shots. However, if this happens a lot, then the poker site could be rigged.

Bad play selectively
This is another very common pattern, which is found on rigged poker sites. In such a scenario, a player will not play any hands for thirty times in a row and suddenly he finds 94 interesting when you have AA whilst the flop is at 993. This kind of scenario is extremely difficult and rare to find and the chances of it happening are indication that the poker site could potentially be rigged. The funny thing is that if the same thing were to happen offline, there would be a consistent pattern observed in that the bad player would always play bad but in the online poker sites, there is every chance of the site being rigged to cheat players.
